- On Wednesday, July 3, 1901, Cloyd purchases the J. W. Myers Grocery on East Liberty St. [1] [2] A few days later, J.A. Garrett, a traveling salesman for Wooster Preserving Company, purchased 1/2 interest in the J. W. Myers Grocery with Cloyd V. Steinmetz. [3] The firm became known as Garrett & Steinmetz. [4]
- In the February 5, 1902 newspaper [5], it was announced that a lot of damage was done to the grocery store, Garrett & Steinmetz, when the water pipes burst in the Howard building. On May 7, 1902 [6], the partnership between J. A. Garrett (James A. Garrett) and Cloyd V. Steinmetz was dissolved.
- By the 1904 Wooster directory, C. V. Steinmetz is listed as a clerk and James A. Garrett is listed as a salesman.
