Article title | Lost to West Salem: The Leading Industry of the Town to be Removed to Kent |
"The Shellhart-Peters Furniture Co., of West Salem, has been induced to moved to Kent, that town to pay them $15,000. By the terms of the contract they are to manufacture furniture and not to employ less than 50 men, but they expect to employ 100, which they will in all probability. One-third to be paid over when the foundations are completed, one-third when the buildings are up, and one-third when the factory has been in operation 60 days. The company is to expend the entire sum in the construction of buildings and is to put in machinery at its own expense. It is also to purchase about four acres of land on which to erect the buildings, but it is not know where they will decide to locate. If the company does not comply with the contract for 15 years from date of last payment, the property is to revert to the town."
