Emma Frances Brainerd, born May 14, 1845, in Brooklyn Village, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. A Daughter of Sherman Loren Brainerd, who came to Ohio in 1814, was a carpenter, cabinet maker, gunsmith and farmer in Brooklyn Village, Ohio. He married Louisa Calkins on Feb. 22, 1837 and had 7 daughters and one son that died in infancy. Louisa (Calkins) Brainerd died on Sep. 30, 1882; Sherman L. Brainerd died on Nov. 28, 1887 at 74yrs 3m 14days.

Their daughter, Emma F. Brainerd, was a retoucher of photographs, in Wooster, Ohio. She took over William H. Harry's Public Square gallery in Wooster, in 1882. She remained in Wooster until at least 1884, but was in Cleveland, Ohio by 1891 as she is listed as an "artist" in the directory of that year. She never married and died in Cleveland, Ohio on October 4, 1924.
