Wooster has welcomed travelers since its early days. The oldest hotel in Wooster, the American House, operated back in the 1830s, and other accommodations have made their mark on Wayne County in the nearly two centuries since.

Today’s guests to Wooster can find relaxation at bed-and-breakfast facilities such as the Market Street Inn and the Black Squirrel Inn as well as local examples of national hotel chains.

Now recognized as a destination for foodies, Wayne County has catered to the changing tastes of locals and visitors alike. Longtime favorite Smithville Inn Restaurant in Smithville (now closed) featured classic homestyle meals, and Amish-style restaurants like Der Dutch Essenhaus in Shreve also draw many visitors.

A modern wave of restaurants and cafes has brought more international flavors to the area: Tulipan, Basil Asian Bistro, The Henry Station, Salsaroja Bar and Grill, and Flamingo Jacks.

In addition to eateries, Wooster is home to JAFB Wooster Brewery, with award-winning craft beers on tap, and Minglewood Distillery, producing bourbon, whisky, gin, and vodka.
