438 N. Bever St., Wooster, Ohio
The large 2-story wood frame house located at 438 N. Bever St. was likely built in 1869 by property owner Louis Young. One of the original windows in the home has Louis Young's name carved into it. Louis Young engaged in a number of various business pursuits after settling in Wooster in the mid-1850s before permanently going into the grocery business in downtown Wooster. Later he operated Young's restaurant and bakery on S. Market St. until about 1883 when he sold out to Henry Hollar for ill-health reasons. Louis Young died in 1884 and his second wife Anna Mary Young continued to live in the house until her death in 1907. After Mrs. Young's death in 1907 the Wayne County Probate Court ordered the real estate holdings to be sold at Sheriff's public auction and the property was subdivided into two lots. Emma Young, a daughter of Louis and Mary Young, bought the property with the house on it and O.C. Williams bought the lot south of the house.
The house shows an Italianate architectural style that was popular in the United States during the late 1840s to 1890.
