Biographical Sketches

William Annat was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1849. He arrived in the United States in 1871, working first in Chicago, Illinois, but moving to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked for the William Taylor Company. He then moved to Wooster, Ohio in 1879 and began by selling fine linens in a shop on the public square. He established a fine reputation as a seller of quality merchandise at fair prices, and it was through the sale of fabrics that he met his wife, Vinnie Harper. They married in 1885 and were the parents of Clarissa, Mary, Adeline, Charles and William. Annat applied for naturalization in the Wayne County Court House on 8 November 1887.

In 1913 he incorporated his business under the name of The William Annat Company. Frank and Henry Boigegrain were taken into the business as stockholders. Mr. Annat was active in business until 1925 when he became ill and was forced to retire. After his death on March 14, 1926, the family sold the company to the two faithful employees, Frank and Henry Boigegrain.
