Yearly report 1910

To the Board of Trustees of Wooster Public Library Ladies & Gentlemen: -

I have the honor to submit my report as Librarian of the Wooster Public Library for the year ending Dec 31, 1910.

Book Account

Number of books in the Library January 1, 1910 = 5,179 Number of volumes acquired by gift = 42 Number of volumes acquired by purchase = 1,046 Number of volumes acquired by binding = 50 Total accession to the Library 1,138 volumes Number of volumes withdrawn = 21 Volumes rebound at the bindery and a large number repaired at the Library = 92

Registration

During the year 408 new borrowers have been registered, making a total of 2,457 borrowers registered. 6 non-resident borrowers have been registered.

Circulation

The Library has been open each week day during the year except legal holidays for the issuing of books. The total number of books circulated was 21,453. Of this number 7, 810 were issued to children and 13,648 to adults. The largest daily circulation was 345 volumes, the smallest daily circulation 21, and the average daily circulation 70.

Reading Rooms

The reading rooms have been open seven hours each weekday and two hours each Sabbath afternoon during the year except legal holidays. 29 monthly and 8 weekly magazines and six daily and three weekly papers have been on file for use of patrons.

Reference Department

The increase in the usefulness of the Library has been more noticeable in this department than in any other. Although no definite record has been kept of the reference work done, it is safe to say that it has been double that of any previous year. A number of new reference books have been added.

Card Catalogue

During the year a card catalogue has been completed and placed in the reading room for the use of the patrons. It has proved to be a very valuable and almost indispensable addiction to the Library to both patrons and Librarians.

Co-operation with the Public Schools

A large number of books have been purchased for use of the Public Schools during the past year. These books are drawn from the Library by the Teachers on a Teacher's card and read in school either by the teachers or pupils. A traveling library department has also been established. Each month small book-cases containing from 30 to 50 volumes are sent out to the different schools in the city and are given out through the teachers to the scholars. These books are read at home by the pupils.

Finance

67.90 was received for over-due books, $1.50 in fines for lost cards, and $2.00 in payment for the use of the Library by non-residents, making a total of $71.40 taken in during the year.

Museum

The Museum has been open for visitors each week day during the afternoon, and two hours each Sabbath afternoon. It has also been open each Wednesday and Saturday evening. A numbering of intesting and valuable articles have been added to the collection the past year.

I wish to express to the member of the Board of Trustees my grateful appreciation of their kindly interest and support in the performance of the duties which have involved upon me as Librarian during the year.

Respectfully submitted

Mytrle M. Allen Librarian
