Notes
- Found a couple queries posted on Genforum that applies to your family.
Probate Court records
- Index to Probate Court records of Wayne County, OH 1812-1900 and the Wills of Holmes County, Ohio Recorded in Will Records A and 1. None of the individuals you requested wills on were included. I did find a David Drake listed in the Wayne County, Ohio index but he died 1822 – too early for the David Drake you requested. There is a possibility that some of the individuals who died in Holmes County, Ohio left a paper trail in Holmes County, Ohio. However, you would need to contact Holmes County, Ohio to see if any estate papers are found on the individuals of interest.
Vital records
- Thomas Sherer and Ann Sills were married 5 January 1818 in Wayne County, Ohio (volume 1 page 17).
- Thomas Sherer and Eleanor Drake were married 21 January 1823 in Wayne County, Ohio (volume 2 page 44).
- John Shearer and Sally Mental were married 26 August 1824 in Wayne County, Ohio (volume 2 page 65). I was unable to find a marriage between John Shearer and Sarah Sills. I am wondering if it could be Sally Mental (Sally is a nickname for Sarah).
- David Drake married Rachel Sells / Sills on 18 Jun 1815 in Wayne County, Ohio (volume 1 page 6).
- Edward Shearer married Elizabeth Buzzard on 25 March 1830 in Holmes County, Ohio (volume 1 page 79).
- I was unable to find a marriage record between Sarah Anne Sherer and Frederick Cooper Rowland. More than likely they were married in Ohio about 1844 based on the age of their oldest child in the Census, United States, 1850.
- Through the International Genealogical Index, Israel and Rachel Sherer were married in Clarke County, Iowa. Although this information did not come from an actual marriage record, I would tend to believe this information. John and Sarah Sherer and family were residing in Clarke County, Iowa in the Census, United States, 1850. To locate marriages on other children in the family, I would suggest contacting Clarke County, Iowa.
- Birth records in Ohio do not exist prior to 1867 in most counties. Holmes County, Ohio is no exception. We do have some early birth from 1856-1857 in Wayne County, Ohio but these are too early for the children of John and Sarah Sherer. There may be a small possibility you could find some church record on the baptisms of the children. However, these would more than likely be in Holmes County, Ohio. You would need to research the churches in Holmes County, Ohio and determine which ones may have been organized by that time. Then, you would need to follow up to determine if any church records were kept and if so, if any still exist.
