Did you know...
When parents and/or guardians did not necessarily approve of a young couples desire for marriage, often times the young couple would travel to a "Gretna Green" distination. These were places with few marriage restrictions. While looking through the Wayne County, Ohio and Holmes County, Ohio newspapers for the early 1850s, the Gretna Green destination for Ohio was Aberdeen, Brown Co, Ohio. This is in southwestern Ohio near the Kentucky-Ohio border. For more information on "Gretna Green" visit Family Search Wiki.
