Historical Information
Mohican Township was surveyed in 1807 by Jonathan Cox. It was established in 1812 as one of the original four townships in Wayne County, Ohio. On the 14th of September 1814, in honor of Commodore Perry's victory on Lake Erie, the Wayne County, Ohio commissioners changed the name from Mohican to Perry. Mohican Township was later re-established.
