Comprehensive History
This Century House located approximately 1.5 miles north of Maysville in Salt Creek Township was built around 1832 on land deeded to Thomas Johnson, who came to Wayne County from Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Johnson had received title to 400 acres of land from President James Madison in 1814, and he selected five half sections of 80 acres each in Salt Creek Township. This home and property passed down through his descendants until at least the latter part of the twentieth century. A 1949 newspaper article noted that "in recent years [the house] was wired for the use of electrical appliances."[1]
