Biographical Sketches

Dr. John B. Beeson was born in 1872 in Marshaltown, Iowa. He graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL in 1902. He practice a few year in Seattle, Washington and North Dakota before purchasing the practice of Dr. G. R. Wells in Livingston, Montana. Dr. John Beeson worked for the Department of the Interior as Chief Surgeon of the Alaska Railroad during its construction. He remained in Alaska for 17 years before moving to Wooster, Ohio in 1933 to assume the practice of Dr. James B. Patterson. Dr. Beeson and his two sons, Harold and Paul, founded the Beeson Hospital in 1936. It was renamed the Beeson Clinic in 1947 when Wooster Community Hospital was built. Following his retirement in 1955 or 1956, Dr. John Beeson removed to La Jolla, California about 12 miles north of San Diego. He died at the local hospital in La Jolla, California after suffering a heart attack and stroke.
