Historical Information

Golden Corners is located 8-miles north of Wooster, Ohio at the intersection of St. Rt. 83 and Pleasant Home Rd. in Canaan Township. The place was named in honor of an early minister, Reverend Gold and the "Corners" comes from the location at an intersection of roads. An earlier name for the hamlet might have been Foxville.

How the hamlet was named has not been verified. Research has revealed that Reverend Gold was not residing in Golden Corners until 1863.

According to Lovina Parmenter, lots were laid out for development of the hamlet in the 1800s. However, it did not grow much in size. At one time, it had a sawmill, slaughterhouse, blacksmith shop, store and post office. Mail was brought up on the train on the B & O line in Killbuck Valley until rural free delivery started around 1900. [1]

Reminiscences of Arthur Irvin, a long-time resident of Golden Corners...'The Golden Corners' post office was on the hill west of Dulls in a general store. Joe Whitworth had a blacksmith shop in what is now the southwest corner of Irvin's garden. His house stood on the west side of the (present) barn. The school house was two rooms and stood at the northwest corner of Route 83 and Pleasant Home Road. [2]
