ABERDEEN, MD. Gertrude Ward, 94, formerly of Wooster, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Aberdeen, Md. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial of the cremains will be at Wooster Cemetery. Gertrude was born Feb. 9, 1912, in Wooster to Oscar David and Buelah Independence Houser Kaufman and married Dwight M. Ward on Sept. 2, 1944. He died previously. She was a graduate of Wooster High School, had attended Kent State University and studied portrait painting under Lorene Peppard.Gertrude was a well-known artist and art teacher, having taught for 57 years in Orrville's and Wooster's adult education classes. She had done many portraits of local dignitaries and murals for many Wooster restaurants. While living in Wooster, she was a school bus driver for Ida Sue School for many years, and for the past 14 years had made her home with her daughter in Aberdeen, Md. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia "Pixie" Ward of Aberdeen, Md.; and a sister, Frances Barger of Athens. In addition to her husband, sisters, Kathryn Urban and Mildred Jenkins, and a brother, David Kaufman, died previously.[1]
