Hon. Ezra W. Miller, formerly of East Union township, who some years ago read law in Wooster, and then went west, appears to be prospering finely in South Dakota. One of the political honors he enjoyed was District Attorney for the state. He now lives at Elk Point, S.D.

Recently he was at Deadwood superintending developments upon his mining ground, the Ella Eldon, in Grizzly gulch. Concerning this mine and Mr. Miller the Deadwood Daily Pioneer Times says: A large amount of work has been done upon the ground within the last few months, and some exceptionally rich ore has been revealed. One tunnel has been run into the side of the mountain 140 feet, and drifts have been run to the right and left. In the left drift the best ore has been found.

This ore assays $40, $50, $150, and even as high as $2,200 to the ton, but the seam has not been followed far enough to demonstrate how much there is of the rich ore. A force of men is at present working steadily on the ground and the owners have every faith in the ultimate development of the property as a mine. The Ella Eldon lies right on the tread of the great Homestake mineral bearing vein, and the owners have every reason to believe that the Homestake vein itself is to found by sinking deep enough. Captain T. H. Russell is interested with Mr. Miller. C. H. Savage, a nephew of Captain Russell, is also a stockholder in the company.

The Ella Eldon is named after Mr. Miller's wife, whose maiden name was Ella Eldon, than whom a more gracious lady never crossed the threshold of the Black Hills.
