Canaan Township<br/>
 
An early settler, Isaac Notestine, said of Canaan township: "Wheat and flour were often hauled to Cleveland from there, and hogs were driven to Cleveland likewise. Wooster was the nearest point of trade, but it was poor place to sell produce of any kind."<br/>

    Canaan Township was established May 5, 1819 and was named by Dr. Isaac Barnes.[1] It was named in honor of the Biblical land of Canaan.[2]

    It was formed from the originally surveyed township 17, of range 13.[3]
